TEACHING FOR TRANSFORMATION

“The primary goal of Christian education is the formation of a peculiar people, a people who desire the kingdom of God and thus undertake their life’s expression of that desire.”

James K. A. Smith

In 2017 CICS began implementing a curriculum framework which comprehensively exposes God and His work in all things done at school: a full integration of faith and academics.

PROJECT-BASED LEARNING

Social studies and science learning goals are met at CICS through Project-Based Learning. This is a teaching method in which students gain knowledge and skills by working for an extended period of time to investigate and respond to an authentic, engaging and complex question, problem, or challenge. A topic is studied through extensive hands-on exploration, presentations from guest speakers and trips into the field. After becoming 'experts' in their study, students create and deliver formal presentations at the end of each quarter.

INDIVIDUALIZED ABILITY GROUPINGS

Thanks to our multi-grade class groupings and our small school size, each student is taught based on their ability level rather than on their year in school. A second grader who is ready for third-grade math is taught third-grade math. Likewise, a fourth grader who is reading at a third-grade level is grouped with other third-grade readers. These groupings are flexible and reviewed continuously, providing your student with a best-fit education.

SAME EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS AS PUBLIC SCHOOLS

CICS is state accredited through Christian Schools International (CSI). Our students master the same state standards (Iowa Core) as their public school peers. CICS also participates in state standardized testing: Iowa Assessments and twice-annual MAP testing.

GRINNELL-NEWBURG DUAL ENROLLMENT OPTION

Students are provided with the option to dual enroll in the GNSD to have opportunities to participate in  athletics.

AREA CHRISTIAN SCHOOL PARTNERSHIPS

CICS partners with area Christian schools to provide opportunities in fine arts and track and field.
